(Chapter 1 of “Stuff Every Bride Should Know” by Nicole Maderazo)

Let’s be real, when you think of wedding planning, you’re probably picturing Pinterest boards, dreamy gowns, floral mood boards, and that perfect color palette. And yes, those are the fun parts! But I’ll be honest with you (because someone has to say it): wedding planning isn’t just about pretty things.

It’s also about logistics, decisions, emotional moments, money talks, and a lot of unexpected surprises. I’ve worked with hundreds of couples through NM Event Planners, and trust me, I’ve seen how quickly planning can turn stressful when brides only focus on the aesthetics and forget the other stuff that matters just as much, if not more.

So, in this very first chapter, let’s go behind the scenes. Because if you want a smooth, joyful wedding day, you need more than inspo. You need insight.

1. The “Invisible” Planning Matters Most

It’s easy to get caught up in table settings and bouquet styles, but what about the timeline? The flow of the day? The contingency plans? The vendors’ call time? These are the things your guests won’t see, but they’ll definitely feel if they go wrong.

Pro tip from me: A well-planned timeline and vendor coordination will do more to make your wedding look magical than any set of fairy lights.

2. There Will Be Stress. And That’s Okay

No matter how “chill” you are, there will be moments that test your patience. Family expectations, budget limits, shifting plans… it’s all part of the ride. And it’s totally okay.

What matters is having the right support system. Your fiancé, your planner (hi!), and vendors you can trust.

3. The Money Talks Are Not Optional

You can’t just wing it when it comes to your wedding budget. Before you get carried away booking suppliers or ordering customized robes for your 12 bridesmaids (yes, I’ve seen it!), sit down and get real with your finances.

Decide what’s worth splurging on and where you can cut back. And please, build in a little extra for the “just in case” expenses. There will be some!

4. Your Wedding Is a Team Effort

You don’t have to do this alone, and honestly, you shouldn’t. Delegate. Trust your suppliers. Communicate with your fiancé. You’ll enjoy the experience so much more when you’re not micromanaging everything and burning out before the big day.

And yes, that’s why wedding coordinators exist. (Shameless plug, but seriously, we’ve saved so many weddings behind the scenes!)

5. Don’t Lose Sight of What It’s Really About

In the end, your wedding is about celebrating your love, your story, and the beginning of your forever. All the aesthetics in the world won’t matter if you’re too stressed to enjoy it.

So yes, let’s plan a beautiful day. But let’s also plan a meaningful, organized, and emotionally healthy one, too.

Keep This in Mind:

If you’re starting your wedding planning journey, don’t just ask “What will it look like?”
Ask “How will it feel for me, my groom, and our loved ones?”
That question alone will change the way you plan everything.
